The Ultimate Belfast Staycation Guide

So many of us will be in the same boat with travel plans being cancelled because of the on-going global pandemic. Therefore, I’m here to encourage you to still be a tourist on your own doorstep this summer. I’ve teamed up Discover Northern Ireland to recommend my top places to play, eat, drink, discover and sleep. My recommendation is to take advantage mid week especially with the Eat Out to Help Out scheme which providing value for eating out Monday - Wednesday in the city.

At Christmas I did a Taste & Tour experience and can say even as a Belfast native I learned so much! Their tours are ‘Good to Go’ approved which is the UK standard for ensuring hygiene & safety during COVID 19. Their food tour is a great way to see the city on foot whilst trying some of the best food & drink the city has to offer. I personally went on a cocktail tour - needless to say I had an amazing time!

When I go on any city break I always do 2 very specific things - visit a chemist (I love a beauty brand I’ve never met before!) and I always go to a church. If you are visiting Belfast and also love visiting a church, I can recommend Belfast Cathedral. It’s hands down my favourite building in the city. Whether you want to attend worship on Sunday or learn about their amazing history on their audio tour, it’s a very calming experience. (It reopens for tours on Friday 14th August).

No first time trip to Belfast would be complete without a trip to Titanic Belfast. Learn more about our cities amazing history in the ship-making business in a building inspired by the ship itself. Great for all ages and like the food tour, Good to Go approved.

I am a massive foodie so I really don’t know where to start or to finish with this one. My ultimate all time favourite is Coppi. I would have feta fritters and duck ragu as my final meal on earth! The casual Italian dining hits the mark every time. For Asian inspired (with a Belfast twist), Yugo is amazing. Their Bao buns have the coolest flavour combos.

For a mega Sunday lunch, head to Henry’s. The pub is located in one of Belfast’s many entry ways with a rich history. If you need a sustenance mid shopping, I love grabbing a burger at City Picnic. They also have delicious salads if you fancy something lighter.

For a date night, Muddler’s Club does an incredible tasting menu. The restaurant recently received their first Michelin Star showing you the quality of their food. The experience is the perfect way to taste local produce at its best. Their wine pairings are also top class. For something less formal, Taylor & Clay at Bullitt Hotel is ideal. Their Asador Grill cooks food in a unique way for the tastiest steak - it reminds me of a restaurant I love in Portugal! Head upstairs to Babel after for a drink & order their namesake cocktail.

On the topic of drinks, there are so many options. My favourite bar is Margot - the cutest basement bar with a mega cocktail list & THE BEST rose wine around. I’m also a huge fan of The National - they have extended their beer garden to allow more people to enjoy themselves in safety. They also do a mega breakfast if you have one too many the night before! If you want something more traditional, pop in at The Morning Star. Old school pub grub. I grew up going in here with my grandfather & always have lovely memories. The interior is so unique and I love their traditionally dressed staff.

There are so many gems that are unique to Belfast. For beauty lovers, head to BTY in Victoria Square, The beauty haven stocks brands from across the globe as well as their stunning own brand brushes.

For fashion lovers, nip to BTY’s neighbour, Rio Brazil. The family run boutique stocks brands for every budget - Paul Smith to Olivia Rubin.

For the best ice-cream head to Al Gelato - they have 3 branches across the city. They do lots of amazing vegan options as well as making a 10/10 hot chocolate.

There are so many phenomenal hotels in Belfast that is is hard to choose where to stay. You can check out lots of offers here for great deals for your staycation.

If you are heading away on a romantic staycation then I highly recommend The Merchant Hotel. They recently have undergone a makeover making it even more luxurious. They have a great spa, super jazz club and a fab afternoon tea too. For an overnight with your bestie or your mum, I love the Grand Central Hotel. It feels like any high end hotel in New York plus their Observatory bar offers views of the city & beyond.

If you were due to go away on a girl’s trip such a hen party, hire the Vegas Suite in Ten Square Hotel. It has Love Island vibes with enough room to sleep 10, a huge balcony to party and a hot tub! I recently ate in Josper’s in Ten Square and it was yummy - highly recommend!

Truly the best thing about Belfast is the people. Ask people in your hotel for recommendations, ask the waiter in your bar or the person in the shop. We are the friendliest bunch. I continue to always ask people for their favourite places. Despite living here all my life, I continue to find new things every single week!
