Vibrant Velvet Lips with MUA Luxe

It's getting to the time of year where I want to amp up my make-up. The brighter nights are coming in (though that 1 hour robbed me of sleep...) and I'm ready to get vibrant with my lips and nails. I recently spotted MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers on one of my many trips to Superdrug. I picked up the shade Atomic. I loved the colour of this lacquer as it reminded me of MAC's Morange which is my ultimate summer lippy. The colour photographed does look more like a pillar box red but in real life, it's more of a orange red. The texture is really amazing. Apply 1 coat to lips and leave to dry. It sets in a velvet matte texture which looks so bold and bright. I would suggest a layer of lipbalm (I've a preference for good old Blistex) before these for anyone with particularly chapped lips. A layer of lip balm is also good to pop over the colour later in the day to revive the colour. The quality of these for the price is amazing. I can imagine myself picking them up in many different colours. Atomic would make a perfect statement lip for a night out as the lasting power is fabulous. The only down side is that I had to take eye-makeup remover to my lips to get it off!

A must try bargain product that rivals many higher end brands. MUA is available in Superdrug.

Sunday Prints

Well, what a week it has been. At the start of the week I had a bit of an accidental trip which has left me with a horrendously sore back and a pretty ugly cut on my arm (see my wrist on my hip for evidence). Overall, it's been a very tiring week with my mood being all over the place. I am glad that Mother's Day put a smile on my face as we went for a family dinner in the Marine Court Hotel, Bangor. We go there frequently and I can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal there. The service is also fantastic. For our meal, I tried to keep going with my dressy casual theme of the year... I feel like I am a changed woman! I am in love with my new Boden Boyfriend Jeans. I picked these up at a Boden party recently and they fit me so well. I have a small waist but a big bum and thighs. Most jeans which aren't 50% elastic tend to not make it past my knees! However, Boden are clearly catering to the curvy girl market with these fabulous jeans. I ordered mine in a 14 Long and they fit like a glove. I love them so much that I think I'll order them in the lighter colour too....

I teamed this with a floral tunic which I picked up in New Look's sale for £8. I really do not like print and wouldn't be a huge fan of colour. However, this just screamed "spring time" to me without looking frumpy. I threw on my New Look nude courts and my trusty Primark mac (probably the best thing I've ever bought from Primark!). I accessoried with my H&M handbag and my mirrored sunglasses which were £2 from Primark. I love these sunglasses as they are such a huge statement piece and really make the outfit look really chic. My hair has been driving me bonkers this week. It is finally starting to get long but I've been looking at the scissors..... I need a telling off!

I hope you've all had a nice weekend. I'm glad it's the start of a new week!

My hair growing mission is going swimmingly. And by swimmingly I mean I look at it everyday, brush it for 100 strokes a la Jack in Will & Grace and lust over pictures of other people's long locks. This week I've had a bit of a panic over my hair. It's at that funny length and growing through a period of 'shedding' which my hair tends to do when I am stressed. As you can imagine, this makes cleaning the shower highly glamorous...

As for looking after my locks, I've been constantly using the Dove Hair Therapy Leave in Conditioner & Care Spray (Long name, I know!). Basically, this spray has all the good nourishing stuff in it to help your hair feel salon fresh. I use it on towel-dried hair before I blow-dry my hair and it leaves me with silky smooth locks. I also use it on days when I have left my hair to air dry or in between washes... a small spray can just perk  my hair up! It's probably one of the one leave in sprays which hasn't left my hair feel like a greasy mess. If you are someone like me and have pretty unruly curls, this is definitely a hero product!

Belfast Fashion Week High Street Night

I was delighted to be invited to West Coast Coat Cooler Fashion Week's High Street Night this week. Belfast Fashion Week is celebrating it's 10th year- it's hard to believe. I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview of Argento's new Spring/Summer collections, including Dirty Ruby which is a brand they have developed themselves. I have definitely spied a few pieces I love! As for the show, I was living the Front Row life with my BFF Avril and chum Natalie. We always have such a laugh. I was really impressed by the clothes from George at Asda and spotted some beautiful pieces from Mexx. Enjoy my pictures from the evening!

Tried to do a super fresh and dewy makeup look. I am loving Kim Kardashian's toned down makeup.

The jumpsuit mafia! My chum Avril from School Gate Style, Natalie and myself!

Avril gifted me with this necklace from her shop and I couldn't wait to
put it on! Such a stunning piece.
Work it girl! Loved this maxi dress from Mexx

Thanks to CMPR for looking after me so well!

The tan that broke my tan ban: Vita Liberata's Rich Lotion

You may have read in my December post about my Tan Ban. Well I think it's been about 6 months since I even looked a bottle of tan. This is the time of year where I am very pale and lately my make-up hasn't been looking as nice on me. I looked in my beauty stash and found a sample bottle of Vita Liberate Rich Lotion in Medium. I think I received this as a gift from an event and I had forgotten about it. I decided to tan my whole body (face included) out of intrigue. I have quite dry skin on my legs so I moose tans NEVER work for me. The following day I looked bronzed and more than that, my skin felt moisturised. Vita Liberata tan does not smell of that typical biscuit smell and left me with a nice tan which looked even. The sample bottle was done after 1 full body but I instantly went and ordered a full size! The tan applies as a rich chocolatey lotion which blends into the skin beautifully and dries quickly without feeling sticky. I also have been very happy with how it has worn off. After about 4 days I did have a little bit of "gather" around my ankles which is very normal for me, but a scrub in the shower sorted it.  I love Vita Liberata as it is a Northern Irish brand. And another plus is that it didn't stain my bed-sheets. Hooray!

I feel like I am back on the tanning wagon. A lot of people mentioned to me that I looked really healthy this week or that I had really white teeth- the benefits of tan!

Saturday Night and It's Alright

Topshop top, Next jeans, Debenhams coat, New Look shoes, H&M neclakce
I've had the epitome of a crazy week. I am nearing the end of my post graduate course and I'm starting to realise I need to decide what career path I want to follow! I feel like I've been very negligent of my friends lately but when a good friend invited to cook me dinner on Saturday night, I jumped at the chance. I enjoy nothing more than having someone cook for me. I think nothing says 'I love you' more than someone making you food! To go to my friends house I kept it pretty casual. Now, many of my readers will think this is not casual but it is to me! I teamed a grey drapey Topshop top (from the Christmas sale and has lots of eating room.. I could be carrying twins and you wouldn't know!) with some of the "Skinny" jeans from Next. I forgot I had these as they have sat in my wardrobe neglected for months. I rolled the bottom up to make them look a bit more casual. I am still on the hunt for boyfriend jeans but these will do until I find a pair I love. On my feet I had my new nude court heels from New Look. They are a good heel height and are quite comfy. I'll be honest in saying that I wore them because I needed to break them in for an event later in the week. I threw my Debenhams Classic coat over my shoulders and stuck on an H&M rose cold necklace. This is a very simple outfit but I think it looks classic. I already see me getting a lot if wear out of these shoes!

I've also been trying to mix up my make-up routine and have fallen back in love with the bargain £5.99 Collection Lasting Perfection foundation. I love the concealer in this range and the smallest bit of the foundation goes a long way! I applied it with my Real Techniques buffing brush

I hope you all had a great weekend,

My HD Brows journey with Studio D

Top: left- before my first HD treatment/ right- after my first HD brows treatment
Bottom: left- before my second HD treatment and 6 weeks of Grow, Baby, Grow
right-after my second HD Brows treatment
If there is one thing that is commented on most frequently on my Instagram selfies, it's my brows. I'm obsessed with brows- mine and those of other people too! My dream brows are a mix of Kim Kardashian, Elizabeth Taylor and Nigella Lawson. I am very dark haired so I can get away with a really strong, dark brow. My brow waxing started at 10 years old and I've seen my brows be every imaginable shape. However, after a particularly traumatic threading experience where they took the arch up too high (leaving my beautifully thick brows look sparse), I decided to grow them in and go to see Belfast's very own Brow Queen, Studio D

Dee uses the HD Brow method, which I was so sceptical of until I met her. I was very keen to achieve a natural, full look. Dee has helped me to transform my brows in two sessions. The HD Brows method is a multi-step process which involves waxing, tinting and threading. Dee told me that I had very good brows but that I needed to grow out the top of my brows which had been over-threaded. You can see that after 1 treatment I had a good shape but Dee was kind enough to gift me with a bottle of HD Brows amazing "Grow, Baby, Grow". This growth serum formula contains vitamins and antioxidants to help the hair follicle to grow. I used this every night for 6 weeks until my next appointment. I can honestly say that it is the best thing I have ever used to encourage hair growth. You can see from the pictures that my brows grew at the top and the front following 6 weeks of use. I had my 2nd treatment this week and Dee was able to make my arch a little higher as I had now grown more hair. I have another appointment booked for May when my brows should be fully grown in. Dee is the loveliest girl and I really enjoy having my brows done by her- even though I torture her to give me Nigella brows! She is so knowledgeable but more than that, she is passionate about brows. I feel like this is only the start of my brow journey and that hopefully by the end of 2014, I'll be able to go product free with them! At the minute I just use a tiny bit of brow pencil in the morning to make them a little darker at the front. I also love my HD Brows Palette in Vamp when I want to have super strong brows for a night out.

I can't wait to show you my brows after my next appointment- I think I'm addicted to Studio D! If you want to transform your brows, make sure you "like" the Studio D Facebook page here

Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette with a Crown Eye-shadow Brush, Real Techniques Shading Brush and a MAC 217

I have all to frequently lamented my lack of eye-shadow skills on my blog. Over the past year I've upped my game and feel more educated in the world of the smoky eye. However, I am still ultimately a lazy person. As much as I love my Urban Decay Naked Palette, I wanted something more compact which I could throw in my bag to take me from day to night. I have recently become obsessed with Wet'n'Wild. Their products are extremely cheap but brilliant quality. The Comfort Zone Palette (above) set me back the grand total of £5.99 and the colours are everything I've ever needed from eye-shadow. The top 4 colours are perfect for daytime looks which can be added to by the bottom 4 colours. They even have where to put the eye-shadow on your eyes for complete novices. I cannot believe the quality or pigmentation of these shadows. They are just as pigmented as my MAC shadows and they have great longevity. £5.99 is worth it for the bottom right colour alone. It is easily one of the most interesting colours I've ever seen and I could only describe it as "oil slick". It's a dark colour with hues of green, purple and brown. I've worn it out on many recent nights out and it really amps up a smoky eye. I remember seeing other options with these bargain palettes so I must so back and seek them out soon!

Wet'n'Wild is available at selected Medicare Pharmacies in Northern Ireland and Dunnes Stores in Ireland.

Fitz at Five

With my friends Sarah and Naomi

The beautiful Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast celebrated their 5th Birthday last night and celebrated with a casino night. I had fun hanging out with my friends and pretending I was a millionaire at the blackjack table! The hotel is very glamorous and the evening definitely reflected that.

For the event I had five minutes to get ready. Seriously. University placement, phone calls and emails meant I had only time to throw concealer and lippy on!! I just threw my hair up into a bun (Praise be that it is getting long again!). I wore Primark trousers with a Primark top along with Topshop shoes. My trusty H&M bag came with me to house anything I lifted on the way out the door!

Happy Birthday to the Fitzwilliam Hotel!

I am a huge fan of jumpsuits. I'm tall and carry weight around my stomach so they are the most flattering thing for me to wear! I was so excited when I won a competition to win this Second Female jumpsuit with Atterley Road on the What I Bought Today's Instagram. I wanted a jumpsuit with sleeves for ages and this fits me perfectly. This is a size large which runs at about a size 14. I'm 5ft 10 and the length is perfect! I'm so impressed with the quality of this Second Female jumpsuit that I'd definitely buy another from the brand. I teamed my jumpsuit with plain black court shoes from Topshop and a necklace which I picked up at Christmas from the New Look sale. I had lots of compliments on my make-up so hopefully (time permitting!) I'll get doing a tutorial at some point.

On my face I had: Estée Lauder Double Wear in 2C1 Pure Beige 77, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light, Mac Studio Fix Concealer in NW20,  Hoola Bronzer by Benefit, Tropics Highlighter, Wet n Wild Comfort Zone Palette on my eyes with By Terry Ombré Blackstar and the HD brows palette in my brows. My lashes are Demi Wispies by Ardell and I finished off with Lancôme Lipstick L'Absolu Rouge in number 6.

I hope you all had a great weekend.
